Sustainable Chelsea boots from Doghammer: what styles are available?
Our first shoe designs were born from the idea of combining maximum functionality with forward-thinking sustainability. As well as fair-trade trekking and hiking boots, at Doghammer you’ll also find sturdy, durable casual shoes. Just like our outdoor shoes, which are specifically designed for use on challenging terrain, our Chelsea boots for women are also entirely sustainable. Whether made from leather, wool felt or 100 per cent vegan materials – sustainable Chelsea boots are an integral part of our ever-changing collections:
People and nature in harmony – with Doghammer’s eco-friendly and fairly produced shoes, this is a breeze. Our Arctic Wool Traveller Madl and Buam are the perfect alternative to conventional winter shoes made from genuine or synthetic leather. As well as their cosy sheep’s wool lining, they also feature a stretchy, breathable upper made from unbleached wool felt.
For those who prefer a classic genuine leather shoe, the Arctic Leather Travellers offer sustainably produced Chelsea boots for women. Instead of wool felt, these feature pleasantly soft leather as a water-repellent upper material. The comfortable fit and the pleasantly springy insole made from natural cork are, of course, also featured in this version.
Our latest addition to our range of vegan footwear is the Chelsea boots made from faux leather, produced in accordance with strict PETA guidelines. You can find out more about the background to this animal-friendly favourite on the following pages.
Are Doghammer’s Chelsea boots just sustainable, or are they also vegan?
At Doghammer, the choice is yours: you can either opt for natural women’s winter shoes or give a pair of purely vegan Chelsea boots a new home – and, of course, both options are sustainable!
The basis of our sustainable Chelsea boots for vegans is our innovative polyamide upper, which – unlike other types of synthetic leather – is not made from petroleum. This is complemented by a cosy lining made from a teddy fleece-like fabric, which incorporates, amongst other things, the best of recycled PET bottles. As a result, both our sustainably produced and our purely vegan Chelsea boots offer an excellent environmental footprint.
To ensure you can enjoy your favourite shoes for as long as possible, we also offer a handy repair service that can replace and renew individual shoe components.
You can also find further vegan shoe styles for women in the categories Outdoor Flip-Flops, Sustainable Trainers and Fairtrade Slippers.
Where and how are Doghammer’s sustainable Chelsea boots made?
Whilst we work on ideas for our ethically produced shoe collections at our headquarters in Rosenheim, Bavaria, we rely on the expertise of our family-run shoe manufacturer in Portugal to produce our sustainable Chelsea boots. We believe that the time-honoured craftsmanship of the Iberian Peninsula, combined with our working methods shaped by the latest eco-friendly developments, makes for an unbeatable team!
Several times a year, we visit our Portuguese partners and often spend hours together at the sanding machine – always on the lookout for the perfect design for modern, eco-friendly Chelsea boots.
Incidentally, the short supply chains for natural cork also contribute to the optimal production conditions at our site in Portugal. This natural material, harvested from the bark of the cork oak, can be found in all our shoe models.
If you’d like to support us in this sustainable manufacturing process, you can collect the used corks from your wine or juice bottles and hand them in to a participating collection partner as part of our Cork Collect Challenge.
