We ourselves were longing for a breathable pair of women’s toe-separator sandals that would still offer us a firm grip, whether in everyday life or out on the mountains. That’s how Doghammer came about, and with the brand came our various models of eco-friendly toe sandals. No matter where your adventure takes you – whether into town, to a campsite or out into the wild – our toe sandals offer a trusty companion for everyone. A flexible, outdoor-ready Vibram sole enables you to reach your destination even on rough terrain. Styles featuring an anatomical cork footbed ensure a healthy and comfortable fit. The slightly wider strap is made from wool, natural cork, linen or cotton and ensures a secure fit even for women with narrower feet. The cork flip-flops for women are fairly and handcrafted in a family-run shoe workshop in Portugal. In this way, we ensure not only that we act in an environmentally responsible manner through our choice of materials, but also that fair working conditions are guaranteed throughout production. To ensure your toe-separator sandals remain a faithful and long-lasting companion, we offer a resole service as part of our repair service. Whether you choose the Gnom with its soft microfibre footbed or our sturdy cork Quaxi, which is available in leather, wool felt or a vegan version with a PET upper: All our women’s outdoor toe-separator sandals prevent uncomfortable chafing or pressure thanks to the cleverly designed toe strap, which consists of a soft band that adapts to the shape of your foot and the position of your toes. All our women’s trekking sandals are hard-wearing, robust and durable, whilst also being lightweight, hygienic and easy to care for. They feature an anatomically shaped, breathable footbed made from sustainable cork and a grippy, non-slip and specially cushioned outdoor sole (including the Vibram brand), making them reliable companions even on rough terrain. What are our women’s trekking sandals made from?

At the heart of our ethically produced outdoor toe-separator sandals for women is a sustainable, renewable natural material: cork! The bark of the cork oak, which is traditionally harvested in Portugal every nine years by stripping the outer layer of the tree, is used in both the outsole and the footbed. Depending on the model, the upper of our women’s toe-separator sandals is also made from cork! The advantages of this robust and eco-friendly raw material are obvious: cork is naturally water- and dirt-repellent, helps regulate temperature and prevents odours from forming. Depending on the model, the straps of our women’s trekking sandals are made not only from cork but also from wool, linen or cotton. For our new upcycled DogX flip-flop model, we’ve recently started using not only recycled ski climbing skins but also discarded climbing ropes from a manufacturer in Rosenheim. Both materials are just as robust and hard-wearing as we’d hope – and wonderfully colourful and unique too!

What makes our outdoor toe-separator sandals for women sustainable

Like all our shoes, our cork toe-separator sandals for women are crafted with a wealth of expertise and skilled craftsmanship in a family-run shoe factory in Portugal – by hand and under fair working conditions. For us, producing good shoes isn’t just about choosing the best materials; it’s also about ensuring the best possible production conditions. A respectful and open working environment, as well as fair pay for our staff, are therefore just as important to us as the considerate use of resources and protecting the climate; this is why we prioritise the shortest possible transport routes and sustainably sourced or recycled materials. For example, as we source the cork used in the manufacture of our women’s trekking sandals from local producers or reuse offcuts from wine cork production, we are able to minimise the environmental footprint of our women’s outdoor toe-separators and manufacture them with due regard for resources and the environment. For our upcycled toe-separators, we also use recycled products and repurpose offcuts from ski climbing skins as well as disused climbing ropes to manufacture the toe straps for our limited-edition Gamsbleame Skifell and DogX models.
