What makes our sustainable women’s hiking boots so special?
Are you looking for a sustainable outdoor shoe for women that will reliably accompany you on hikes, trekking tours or when heading off-track? Then Doghammer is the perfect choice for you. Our hiking boots combine robust performance with natural and recycled materials such as cork, wool or vegan alternatives. They offer you excellent comfort, a secure fit and a pleasant foot climate – from forest trails to the summit. You’ll also find our sustainable trainers to match. As well as function and design, we place great importance on resource-efficient materials and fair working conditions. The result is hiking boots that will accompany you on your next outdoor adventure with peace of mind.
What materials are our sustainable women’s trekking shoes made from?
For our sustainable trekking and walking shoes for women and men, we use high-quality natural materials such as cork and wool, as well as recycled PET for our vegan models. Most of the raw materials come from Portugal, where our shoes are carefully handcrafted in a family-run workshop. In this way, we combine short transport routes with traditional craftsmanship. The removable insole, made from recycled cork, coconut fibres and EVA, features a three-layer construction that provides comfortable cushioning, a healthy foot environment and reliable insulation – even on cooler days. This means our sustainable hiking boots offer optimal support and a comfortably dry feel on every hike. If you prefer an even more natural feel, why not discover our barefoot hiking boots too?
Why does cork play such an important role in the manufacture of our eco-friendly outdoor shoes for women?
Cork and wool are naturally dirt- and water-repellent, breathable and antibacterial. In the insole, we utilise the moisture-absorbing and odour-neutralising properties of cork and coconut fibres to create a comfortably dry environment for your feet. In the outsole, too, cork reduces the proportion of rubber – which makes our walking shoes lighter and improves their environmental footprint. Cork is a rapidly renewable raw material with an impressive environmental footprint. The bark of the cork oak is harvested gently, without felling the tree. After a few years, a new layer forms – and trees that have been stripped of their bark actually absorb more CO₂ than those that haven’t been harvested.
What sets our vegan hiking boots apart from traditional trekking boots?
Instead of leather, we use a durable, Oeko-Tex 100-certified synthetic leather for our vegan hiking boots. It is in no way inferior to natural leather in terms of durability and robustness – yet it contains absolutely no animal-derived components. Combined with cork, this creates abrasion-resistant, lightweight and water-resistant outdoor shoes, which will reliably accompany you on your hiking and trekking trips.
