Shoe-making course: make your own outdoor flip-flops
As they spend a lot of time outdoors and off-road themselves, Maximilian and Matthias were looking for a breathable toe sandal that still offered a secure fit. This gave rise to the idea for Doghammer and a sustainable, functional toe sandal, which is manufactured in collaboration with a workshop for people with disabilities in Rosenheim.
Now it’s your turn to make your own toe sandals in our workshop! Matthias will first show you round the Doghammer premises at Stuntwerk Rosenheim, and then it’s straight into the workshop. There, we’ll walk you through the individual steps of making your own customised shoes. The pre-sewn strap – which you can customise in advance using our configurator – will already be waiting for you. It is sewn by staff at the workshop for people with disabilities and delivered directly to our workshop, where your skills will be put to the test during the workshop. Under guidance, you’ll build your own Doghammer flip-flops step by step. From choosing the sole and cushioning material to gluing in the straps and adding the final finishing touches, you’ll be able to play a full part in the process yourself.
The course lasts around 3 hours and is limited to a maximum of 7 participants per session. The minimum number of participants is 4 per session. The price is per participant and includes a free drink at the Stuntwerk bar and, of course, the shoes you have designed and made yourself.
COURSE OUTLINE FOR THE SHOE-MAKING COURSE
- We’ll prepare and sew the straps in advance according to your specifications.
- You choose the upper material for flat flip-flops or the insole for the insole-style flip-flops.
- Next, we’ll thread the strap through and glue it in place.
- Whilst the glue is drying, we can choose your soles together and sand them down straight away.
- Once we’ve threaded the strap through, we’ll prepare the cushioning layer.
- Now comes a slightly tricky task: gluing the sole on (don’t worry, Matthias will explain everything to you again in detail).
- Now it’s time for some vigorous tapping and hammering. We won’t tell you that you can also use compressed air ;-)
- And then comes the final finishing touches.
- Your Doghammer flip-flops are READY!
THIS IS WHAT WE DO IN THE SHOE-MAKING COURSE
- Gluing at our gluing table with extraction
- Punching with our hole punches
- Hammering on our shoemaker’s tripod
- Sanding on our trusty old finishing machine
- Cutting, pressing and much more
- Oh, and wait – the glue has to dry, after all ;-)
INCLUDED IN THE PRICE
- All the materials for your flip-flops
- Course fee including instruction (approx. 3 hours)
- A free drink at the Stuntwerk Café (not applicable when booking external courses)
- Personalised and individual ‘shoe consultation’
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STANDARD FLIP-FLOPS AND CORK FOOTBED
- Standard flip-flops have a flat footbed. They consist of the upper material (cork or microfibre), 5–6 mm of cushioning and an extra cushioning pad in the heel area.
- The flip-flop with a cork footbed has an anatomically shaped footbed to support your feet. It consists of an upper (cork or microfibre), a footbed made of natural cork and an extra-soft intermediate cushioning layer. We recommend this if you have foot problems, spend a long time wearing the flip-flops, or are on your feet a lot for long periods.
GOOD TO KNOW
- Your personalised thong is sewn in advance at a facility for people with disabilities.
- We offer the DIY workshop for groups of four or more people.
- Also suitable for company parties and stag/hen do’s.

@Matthias:
