Sustainable slippers
Our slippers are fair and sustainable because they are handcrafted in a family-run shoe workshop in Portugal. When it comes to materials, we deliberately opt for renewable natural raw materials such as cork or locally sourced sheep’s wool. As well as classic styles, our range also includes barefoot slippers with a flexible construction and a natural feel when walking. Close, transparent communication with our suppliers, as well as our partnership with an organisation supporting people with disabilities for our dispatch operations, makes our slippers particularly fair.

What makes Doghammer’s sustainable slippers stand out
We set out to shake up the footwear market with sustainable, modern and comfortable shoes. By launching our brand, we wanted to offer nature-loving customers – who, like us, enjoy being active outdoors – a sustainable, eco-friendly yet practical alternative to run-of-the-mill footwear. Alongside our trekkingand walking shoes and our Fairtrade trainers – which, as all-rounders, perfectly bridge the gap between outdoor adventures and leisure – we also offer toe-separators and hut slippers: eco-friendly slippers that combine comfort and functionality at home.
Whether as open slip-on sandals, slippers or warm, lined house shoes, they offer you comfort wherever you need it: at home, at a friend’s house or whilst travelling. Like all our footwear, our sustainable slippers are produced fairly, in an environmentally friendly way, and with consideration for the climate and resource conservation. We offer many models as upcycled versions or in vegan designs.
What types of fair-trade slippers can I find in the Doghammer range?
For anyone who values comfort just as much as sustainability and environmental protection, our eco-friendly slippers are the alternative to conventionally produced footwear. With our flip-flops and slippers, we offer an eco-friendly alternative that provides the perfect combination of style, comfort and functionality – not just at home, but also on holiday or when visiting relatives or friends.
If you’re looking for sustainable slippers for the summer, then take a look at our toe-separators: Designed as airy slip-on sandals – originally intended as outdoor footwear – their sturdy, non-slip Vibram sole gives you extra grip, making them suitable for wearing outdoors too. Anyone who gets cold feet easily or is looking for a pair of cosy eco-friendly slippers for the winter will be well served by our Fairtrade wool and wool felt slippers. We offer all our toxin-free slippers in a range of styles for both women and men. Discover our barefoot slippers made from genuine sheep’s wool too.
Where and how are Doghammer’s sustainable slippers produced?
Like all our footwear, we also manufacture our eco-friendly slippers at our family-run partner factory in Portugal. Here, traditional shoemaking craftsmanship goes hand in hand with innovative production methods. We aim to provide our employees with a supportive working environment and fair pay, whilst also ensuring that every stage of production is as environmentally friendly and resource-efficient as possible.
As many of our eco-friendly raw materials also come from Portugal or Spain, we are able to keep transport distances short and thus keep the carbon footprint of our slippers impressively low. In addition to sustainably sourced raw materials and natural materials such as cork, wool and cotton, we are also increasingly using recycled materials, such as cork scraps from wine cork production or PET bottles recycled into a functional wool felt substitute.
What makes Doghammer’s sustainable slippers so comfortable?
As well as an impressive environmental footprint, the comfort of our shoes is, of course, particularly important to us! That’s why we select all our materials with care. Clever combinations of materials make our natural slippers not only stylish eye-catchers, but also extremely comfortable everyday companions.
For example, the cork footbed in our flip-flops not only provides good support but also absorbs moisture and prevents unpleasant odours from developing. The wool and wool felt that make our hut slippers so comfortable have natural antibacterial, water-repellent and dirt-repellent properties. Both cork and wool help regulate temperature – which means your feet are protected from both overheating and getting cold. And this applies whether you’re wearing socks or not, as you can also enjoy the comfort of our sustainable slippers, barefoot slippers and house shoes wonderfully well barefoot!
Can I also go outdoors in Doghammer’s eco-friendly slippers?
Absolutely! With their sturdy, non-slip Vibram sole, our slip-on sandals are actually designed as outdoor toe-separators. They therefore offer you a secure grip on any type of surface – on tiled or parquet floors as well as in the garden, on the patio or on the street. They’re even reliable companions for shorter walks in the mountains!
Our hut slippers also have a flexible cork sole that provides good grip, for example on wet or slippery floors or even on the balcony. Whilst they aren’t really suitable for prolonged outdoor wear, a few steps in the great outdoors won’t do them any harm at all. Thanks to their light weight and compact pack size, they’re popular not only as sustainable slippers but also as comfortable travel companions. They fit into any rucksack and give you that little bit of a ‘home-from-home’ feeling wherever you are – whether at a mountain hut after a hike, a day on the slopes, visiting friends or on holiday.
Is there anything I should bear in mind when looking after Doghammer’s eco-friendly slippers?
Just like our other shoe styles, our fair-trade slippers are made from particularly hard-wearing and durable materials. The wool or cork we use in production naturally repels dirt and moisture, so they practically clean themselves. A damp cloth will help with surface dirt.
To ensure you can enjoy your new eco-friendly slippers for as long as possible, simply leave them in a well-ventilated spot after taking them off. This allows the natural moisture absorbed by the material whilst wearing them to escape most effectively, preventing any odours from developing. By the way, you can also wash our slippers in the washing machine on the woollens cycle without any problems. Afterwards, simply leave them to air-dry – stuffing them with newspaper helps draw the moisture out of the material. They’ll be as good as new in no time!
