Sustainable women’s sneakers
Leave your sustainable footprints with our ethically produced, sustainable women’s trainers. Our trainers are made from high-quality, sustainable materials in a family-run shoe factory and are crafted from materials including cork, linen and sheep’s wool. We offer a range of sustainable trainer styles: the Natural Commuter combines a cork patch with linen, whilst the Wool Commuter features sheep’s wool. The range is complemented by vegan trainers as well as barefoot trainers for women, featuring a zero-heel design, flexible soles and plenty of room for your toes – for a particularly natural walking experience in everyday life.

What sets our sustainable sneakerss for women apart?
We love an active and sustainable lifestyle and enjoy getting out and about in nature. With the launch of our trainers collection, we aim to combine our passion with modern, sturdy footwear that’s ideal for both everyday city life and outdoor adventures and travel. Whether you opt for our sporty all-rounder, the Cork Traveller – which is also available as a vegan trainer in a linen and cork version – or choose the Arctic Traveller, the comfortable winter version: our sustainable and ethically produced trainers for women are designed to be your faithful companions at all times – whether on your way to university or work, travelling in faraway lands or out on a hike. They’re so comfortable and lightweight that your feet will stay cosy even over long distances. As well as being made from sustainable materials, it’s above all their exceptional comfort that sets our women’s outdoor sneakers apart.
How and from what materials are our sustainable sneakers for women made?
Like all our sustainable footwear, our trainers are made from renewable, sustainably sourced materials and are entirely handcrafted in Portugal. The cork and wool used in the production of our fair-trade trainers for women also come largely from the Iberian Peninsula, which means short transport distances and, consequently, an impressive environmental footprint. The upper part of the removable insole is also made of cork. It ensures a comfortable, dry foot environment. The shock-absorbing outdoor sole, which contains cork, is manufactured in Germany – it makes the shoe particularly light and robust. Furthermore, replacing the rubber usually used in the sole with cork offers a significant environmental benefit.
Depending on the version, the inner lining of our sustainable trainers for women is made from temperature-regulating, mulesing-free wool (Merino) or, in the case of our vegan trainers for women, from robust denim and abrasion-resistant microfibre. Our Cork Traveller comes with elasticated laces, which eliminate the need for tying. However, a pair of standard cotton laces is also included with your order.
Can I go hiking in these sustainable sneakers for women, and are they waterproof?
Thanks to the natural materials used – cork, wool and wool felt, as well as recycled PET – our sustainable trainers for women, like all our shoes, are particularly robust, dirt-resistant and abrasion-resistant. You can therefore wear them with confidence on a trip into the countryside. The cork-reinforced outdoor sole, manufactured in Germany, offers firm grip and a secure footing on any type of surface. Your steps are cushioned by the specially designed insole, which features a non-slip underside made from renewable coconut fibre and EVA cushioning for a particularly soft roll.
When wearing our sustainable trainers, you’ll benefit not only from the comfortable fit but also from the natural water- and dirt-repellent properties of the materials: both wool and cork keep out external moisture whilst remaining breathable, ensuring a comfortable foot environment. Thanks to the removable cork insole, your feet will always stay dry in our organic trainers for women, as they absorb any moisture generated whilst wearing them, and you can simply remove them after a long day to let them dry and air out.
What’s the best way to clean my sustainable sneakers for women?
As both wool and cork have self-cleaning properties and are very hygienic thanks to their antibacterial effect, our sustainable trainers for women provide a healthy foot environment for your feet even after prolonged wear. If your trainers do get very dirty, it’s best to let the dirt dry first and then remove it with a soft brush or cloth. Heavier dirt can usually be easily removed with a damp cloth. You may also have a dirt eraser, which, once slightly dampened, can be particularly useful for cleaning the side of the sole.
After cleaning, a waterproofing spray is a good way to protect your fair trade trainers for women against further dirt and moisture. For the cork parts of your trainers, you can also use special cork care products such as a cork care stick or a waterproofing care spray. This ensures the cork remains particularly supple and retains its natural properties for even longer.
What materials are used to make the sustainable women’s sneakers?
When selecting materials for our sustainable women’s trainers, we rely on a variety of natural raw materials. For example, our wool trainers are made primarily from sheep’s wool sourced from Nordwolle. Thanks to the wool, this shoe is a sustainable and genuine ‘three-season’ trainer for women. In contrast, for our Textile Commuter, we rely primarily on recycled cotton. This makes the trainer wonderfully airy and light, making it perfect for spring and summer. For the Natural Commuter, we rely entirely on the natural material cork. Not only is the insole made from cork, but the upper is also largely composed of genuine cork. This combination of materials gives this sustainable women’s trainer a unique look!
